Assignment at Overcooked Mookata (Ang Mo Kio)
Some time ago, I had a food photo shoot assignment for Overcooked Mookata. Located in Ang Mo Kio and opened by two young men, it is a stall that sells Thai Mookata.
A New Strategy During This COVID-19 Pandemic
You might be thinking that I will be writing a post about Mookata, but you are wrong.
Facing uncertainty during this pandemic, these young people decided to add a few new items into their menu that are suitable for deliveries and take-aways.
The dishes are: Buta Don, Mentaiko Salmon Don, Smoked Duck Don, Thai Basil Krapraw and Wagyu Don (photos above).
Aside from Thai Basil Krapraw, the rest are Japanese rice bowls, which comes with an Onsen Egg.
After I was done with my shoot, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to try their Smoked Duck Don and Wagyu Don.
The moment I took a bite of the smoked duck, the aroma of truffle and smokiness of the duck started to spread all over my mouth. Coupled with its teriyaki sauce, I fell in love with the dish immediately.
I thought the Smoked Duck Don was already very fantastic until I tried the Wagyu Don. Upon first bite, the flavour of truffle with black pepper exploded into my mouth. The beef was not too tender nor was it tough, giving it a balanced texture. I kept eating and without knowing it, I finished both bowls in an instant.
After eating, I got to know from them that the meat for the Japanese rice bowls were all pan-seared and torched with flame, sealing the flavours of the meat inside. Probably this is the reason why I could finish both bowls so soon.
